I'm covering this today --

This update is focused on blended learning and technology for students.

"We've offered mixed learning models to reduce the number of students in classrooms."

"Mixed learning means that most students will go to school every other day."

The days that high school students are not in schools are "not vacation days."

Students at home will have to maintain contact with their teachers/students. Attendance will be recorded everyday.
On certain days, high school students will use technology like Microsoft teams to participate. But they'll also do online courses and workplace/community internships.
In the spring and the summer, teachers had access to professional development activities that "allowed them to prepare for the upcoming school year."

Teachers will continue to be supported throughout the school year with further adjustments.
There will be a "bring your own device" requirement. Eligible families who purchased a laptop for a high school student since March, can apply to get some of it refunded. Parents still have time to purchase them before the school year. More info : https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/education/services/services_renderer.201514.Laptop_Subsidy_Program.html
"Don't be anxious if your child doesn't have a computer for the first day of school." There will be a loan program until they do get a device.
"We could not bubble the high school students the way we did in the k to eight system."

They say that was because high school students take different courses in accordance to their future goals. Tough to bubble them when they all have different schedules.
Approaches may look different from school to school. But all will have to communicate with their teachers during the day.

On the "bring your own device" program:
"We want to allow students to use technology that's familiar to them..."
About 80% of students have a device, 60% feel comfortable taking them to school for use.
On poor rural internet access: the departments are working on alternate locations for these students to work/study. Details to come.
Assessments and report cards will be issued.
11,000 devices are available on loan -- they don't anticipate having to use them all. They are being planned for "kits" that will be given out to middle school students should there be an outbreak and those students need to learn from home.
