It& #39;s truly insane to me that the mayor thought starting a glorified GoFundMe for struggling SLC residents was a good idea. You& #39;re the mayor! You& #39;re in charge of the money! If you have no authority or power to reallocate some of the city& #39;s tax dollars, then what& #39;s the point?
Here& #39;s an idea:
The proposed police budget was $85 million.
City Council cut that by $5.3 million—except they didn& #39;t, really.
$2.5 million went to a social worker program (that& #39;s overseen by the police department).
$322,000 is "possibly" for de-escalation training. Possibly.

$2.8 million is in a "holding account" that is literally just there in case the police department needs more money.
Oh, there was also an *additional* $687,000 for bodycams and tasers (which are usually produced by the same company and not suspicious at all).

The goal for #RaiseUpSLC is to get $1 million from residents who are already struggling in a pandemic when there& #39;s almost $3 million (that we know about!) sitting in an account to be given to a police department that will just use it to shoot dogs or exploit a terrified woman.
I know no one reads threads, but holy shit this is so fucking stupid.
