Here& #39;s the operational guidance released by ON yesterday for managing schools and COVID cases.
My comments and questions- grateful for ppl in the know to reply:
1. w/o comprehensive regular testing of all school staff this is reactive not proactive https://www.ontario.ca/page/operational-guidance-covid-19-management-schools?_ga=2.53566248.1035061877.1598545029-1050356690.1594236087">https://www.ontario.ca/page/oper...

2. Testing could be extended to older children, especially in secondary school. If there was a rapid non-nasal swab test for children we could do regular testing of younger children as well.
3. To be proactive treat schools as closed systems. No sharing of staff or buses/routes.

4. Parents are not obliged to tell a school if they are infected. This means it is voluntary disclosure and testing. Yes, there& #39;s a privacy issue but this compromises tracing.
SO- is the local PHU going to tell a school if an infected person is connected to a school?

5. Would this extend to all infected persons (students, staff, parents)?
Right now test results are according to residence postal code. Will patients be asked if (a) they work at a school and (b) if they have children attending a school? How will PHUs inform boards/schools?

6. An & #39;outbreak& #39; is defined as 2+ cases in a 14-day period in a school. It& #39;s unclear what action individual boards and schools will take.
Are boards inclined to take a board-wide policy or will different schools implement their own approaches?

7. Given that an outbreak is 2+ cases in 14-days there are likely to be multiple outbreaks in some schools throughout the year. B/c it& #39;s linked to community transmission and we don& #39;t have regular testing! (Points 1 and 2).
How are boards supported for recurring disruptions?

@imgrund @DFisman @CarolCampbell4 @calphonso @meredithmartin @maritstiles @normsworld @yonanestel These questions need clarification. Grateful for any info you may have or can generate.
The best management strategy is to proactively test (regular and broadly), trace - that means and connecting test positivist information on everyone who has access to the school, and clear communication and reporting.
This is all in a context where we haven& #39;t eliminated.
