My opinion of the problems with postponing JEE and NEET.
(I am a student of grade 12, 2020-21 batch who was realistically supposed to have JEE in the coming January)
I will list down some issues i see with postponement. But these are not based on government statements.
1) Making everyone drop a year by default will create a complete deficit of new engineering graduates 4 years from now and same for medical interns 5.5 years from now which will be a catastrophe as people wont stop retiring but there wont be new people to hire as replacement.
2) Dropping the year will essentially double the competition (from the usual 10-12 lakh to 20-24 lakh for JEE) as 12th grade classes are running and there will be new highschool passouts appearing for the same exams. Besides we wont even have enough college seats for everyone.
3) Even if there isn't a drop year and exams are postponed, realistically conditions wont go to normal anytime soon (even vaccination takes 2 years if a vaccine is available) and pushing the timeline will make the situations worse and overlap with next batch.
4) Some private colleges have already started online classes based on board results for admissions essentially running their batches on time. This will create an unfair advantage for people who can afford private colleges getting all the lucrative high pay jobs.
5)The current solutions to stretch exams for a month or make more centers are not feasible as getting a center ready for exam takes a lot of requirements and making new question papers for each
extra day requires a lot of grace balancing and takes time(not all papers are equal)
6) A minor issue with overlapping exams with the next batch is that the 2020 batch will have essentially 2.5-3 years of proper prep while 2021 batch will have 1 year of prep and 1 year of online classes which are utterly useless.
Conclusion:- I understand there is a bias from my side regarding my batch but these are according to me some viable reason why exams shouldn't be postponed because lets face it, this isn't ending anytime soon and it will just get worse. We need to learn to live with this
