With all the “talking horror” I’ve been doing between @RadioCreeps and other podcast guest spots, I started doing something that has changed my perspective on more than just movies. So I thought I’d share...

While this may seem simple, simple advice is often the best advice that we often overlook. So I’m not claiming to reinvent the wheel here. Just a thought for your morning.
We all have our likes and dislikes, and with everyone shut in without human discourse, face to face, we’re sharing them more often here, with no context, no inflection.

The difference between sending a text message and a call can be disastrous at times!
So it’s important to treat other opinions, especially those you’re looking to debate civilly, with caution.

Some things aren’t up to debate, of course. In those instances, just don’t.
But in regards to horror films and fandoms, we’re always debating and discussing.

Even in the things you dislike, take a breath, and a minute to think about one thing. One note of positive in the item you dislike. One redeeming quality.
For me, for podcasting, for horror films, I try to identify one way it’s furthered the genre or overall visibility of horror films in the times.

Often when you can debate something but still see the redemption in it, your discussions will go a lot smoother.
By finding that one thing, you often uncover more.

Don’t personalize discourse. You’re discussing your opinion on something, and while you may be a hip and with it individual, you aren’t the end all be all. Opinions aren’t facts.
Adjusting the lens you view these things with, whatever the topic, is never destructive to you or your individuality.

It’s growth.
Oh and one more thing:

Even things with zero redeeming qualities can be seen as important. They show us what NOT to do, what NOT to be. So there’s redemption in everything, if you’re willing to adjust the lens.
