I have some thoughts on the impact athletes have in boycotting. As always, you can agree or not, it's my opinion and quite frankly none of us know the right answers, anyway... a thread.
So I applaud the stance the NBA and other sports took yesterday and today. These are human beings with high emotions and they should be allowed to express their feelings. Because a person is rich and famous does not preclude them from having thoughts on these matters.
I become skeptical of whether they can do a boycott long term because it's tough to get every person on board to effectively do so. There's too much money involved. The money IMO becomes very important in this discussion.
I support the NBA and other players returning to action. But and a very big but is these owners need to step from behind the shadows and realize these athletes control the product and have the power to shut it down and mess up the money anytime they want to.
Where's Steve Balmer? Where is Jerry Reinsdorf? Where is the Buss family? Come out and openly say you are for your players' causes and throw some money behind it. The players will feel more supported and will also do the same.
Because here's the thing, whether Lebron James plays or not, cops like Ewing or 17 year old kids like Rittenhouse are going to keep doing what they do. Sadly a sports boycott is not going to stop this in the short term. It costs money for reform and voting of course.
And the voting costs money. We have an issue in this country where people don't like to vote and aren't registered to vote. Then we have an issue in this country where people have to travel to vote or wait in lines to vote.
I'd like to see owners and athletes create more jobs around getting people to register to vote, and creating more voting centers. I'd also like to see more mainstream ad campaigns encouraging people to vote. This is what I grew up with in the 90's.
This is a neutral thing. I'm not suggesting this to be a Democratic or Republican campaign. I do believe though if people want real reform they need to make their voices heard through boycotts, protests (peacefully) and then voting. After you vote, keep the pressure going.
That's all I got, I'm sure I have more thoughts but I do always encourage dialogue from those looking for evolution, progression and progress. If that isn't you then stay behind and get left. I hope you all have a blessed day.
And the NBA is back which is what I always expected. Now, what will they all do in conjunction with still playing.

Most of all I hope these men continue to work on their mental health. This bubble situation can't be easy no matter what their paycheck says.
