DJs don't automatically owe their local artists slots in sets. The job is to entertain the audience and not to support individual artists.
Artists who complain about their music not getting played should find out or ask why that's the case. Being cry babies doesn't guarantee your music will get that play tomorrow. If it's still whack, you'll stick being that cry baby till something is done to improve your product.
Some artists have good jams but their distribution network lets them down. Video pools are more convenient as opposed to sending emails to individual DJs. We need sites that will post regular updates (audio & video) and provide song elements when available at a fee.
Then there's this habit of asking DJs to get tracks from YouTube... Hii wacha tuzungumzie siku ingine. Lol!
Good jams will always find their way in DJs' playlists. But again, they can't play what they don't know exists. So it's driven by 2 factors:

1. Quality of the product
2. Distribution & Campaign (marketing)
Onto those who choose to make headlines instead of music then complain their substandard product not getting played. Invest your energy more in making good music instead of headlines. Headlines and trends don't last as long as good music.
Producers need to stop playing these artists too man. Some of them don't give 2 fucks about artists. They just want to get paid and gas up the artists on how they've made a hit to motivate them to book more studio sessions and milk them proper.
As much as I don't owe our local artists a slot in my sets, it hurts seeing what some of them have to go through as they make their way up. Hopefully one day I can actively involve myself with music production. Would love to hold some of their hands and see them grow.
Perhaps set up @Invasionunit's music production studio and sign up some potential acts on an artist management program. Facilitate their music production and other things... 2020 would have been a good year for this but there's a lot going on, we'll see how 2021 goes.
