I am dead serious when I say I wish STARZ would resurrect SURVIVOR’S REMORSE with a new season about 2020.
I don’t say this b/c OMG ENTERTAINMENT.

But b/c the Survivor’s Remorse writers understand something about the intersections of race and class and I think they could tease out how those inform the wildcat strike and the stakes involved.
it’s a show that was framed around the reality of the meteoric class ascendance an NBA career can provide and how that plays out in everyday life.
So let’s think about that in the context of a global pandemic and pre-existing epidemic of Black death spurred by the gears of white supremacy.
I think, if you’re an NBA player, you’re far more likely, like most Black people who jump classes, to still have relationships with people who are not insulated from the worst cruelties America metes out.

It’s not theoretical. It’s not foreign. It’s happening to your fam.
So it’s personal. There is an immediacy that’s still extremely palpable.

Which means you have a group of people with extraordinary means who still understand the stakes of what’s happening for regular, not rich folks.
And they ALSO possess a level of credibility that is absent from people like say, Lawrence Otis Graham.

There’s no incredulity at the banal cruelties of white supremacy
They have authority, they have resources, AND they have proximity to the very factors that are harming Black people who have far less of all those things.
And so all of that coalesces in Chris Webber’s remarks. You have a community of highly resourced Black people who also understand “those who live in these neighborhoods—we tell ‘em to vote and walk away." https://twitter.com/loganmmurdock/status/1298757149254852609?s=20
A new season of Survivor’s Remorse that could effectively illustrate all of these things, while building on the foundation of the existing work, I think, could make for some really incredible television.
ESPECIALLY b/c the show has a track record of curiosity and openness, and was rarely, if ever, preachy or didactic.

I. Would. Like. To. See. It.
And remember, the Calloways live in GEORGIA.

Which means you can fold in voter suppression/Stacey Abrams, plus Loeffler and the Atlanta Dream and the WNBA more broadly, and let’s just add in a Kaepernick cameo where he and Cam develop a strategy based on what he started
