Well it works and it is glorious https://twitter.com/malk_zameth/status/1297968819680489472
It is black and white, shades of gray are done by patterns of black and white đź–¤

Touching how freeform it is compared to today’s software, results and errors go on the same buffer you write the code, you draw on the screen on top of existing UI
How drawing was such a big part of the base language ❤️
Even more touching is the whole idea of it all being accessible to change, the env just gives you the code for everything in real time
You can change the algo of the libraries you call to draw and thing is…
I think a lot about that, I dream of what would be the world if everyone created art , what would be our perception of art in that case ? Every creation I did no matter how amateur changed how I perceived art
If most people did it how would we talk about art?
And Smalltalk-80 connected me to the same thing in computers and software dev, we separate people in producers and consumers of software, not everyone needs to become a dev, but I think we miss a lot here
I started coding with this old thing, I was 9 yo, I was not a pro at all, just a kid. Every program on that old thing was in basic and the environement of usage was also one of creation, you copied code from magazines and lil' by lil' understood them https://twitter.com/malk_zameth/status/1116291337672851456
now part of the problem is of course propriety of source and the free software movement tries to solve that, that is why we try to build a commons, I cannot explain it better than @bodil does in this talk here, but in this thread I'm not talkign about that http://videos.ncrafts.io/video/275530002
I am talking about affordance. The whole environement in Smalltalk-80 invites you to change it, makes it easy and acessible, make it part of the fun, the environement of usage is an environement of creation you are inside a creation environement all the time
