My fave part abt academia is being part of a movement where you& #39;ve taken almost all public hits, been vilified, abused, attacked & threatened by ppl in/outside academia &*some* wyte women have stayed on the sidelines so they can swoop in & "save the field." #blackintheivory 1/
The fact that there is a handful of women who have the time to put things together (&get things published) while you& #39;re the voice of a movement & they are organizing things w/ other white ppl & non-Black POC (outside your field) to "save the field" is really brazen. They have 2/6
not spent countless hours pushing ppl, the field, the public &being the constant "go-to" doing unpaid labor, giving time/energy. They come away completely unscathed never having interacted w/ some of the filth that calls you ever name you can think of, &questions your worth 3/
as a human, a scholar, a Black person. But these same women will come in & save the field. Mark my words. Wyte women will be the saviors of medieval studies. They will do this on the backs of BIPOC labor who& #39;ll be erased. In moments like this all of them are silent but they 4/
are busy looking out for their careers and names. Moving up b/c we have to wait for them to get tenure before they use their voice & we, of course, should wait in line. Many of us aren& #39;t seen as women, so we should wait in line like the white women did. White women are going 5/
to think they are saving the field but one day in say, 10 yrs, they might look around & see that the field is still white & that they have replaced all the old guard with their friends who are still mostly white but most of all invested in whiteness. 6/6
