David Attenborough Voice: “tiny electronic cameras”
Uh mute this thread if bugs freak you out
Ocean bug ocean bugs ocean bugs (I know they’re not bugs hush)
EXTREMELY digital looking. Combined with the distorted lenses I feel like I’m watching a low budget JHorror
Armour
Revealed to be millipedes
Some really intensely close shots, including one that seemed to be between the millipedes legs and shell
“The size of a full stop.”
Sorry in advanced to my followers
Spring tails. They can launch six inches into the air.
Okay Uzumaki
Honestly some of the digital noise is pretty nice
Velvet worm is a full on eldritch horror
Centipede over a foot long that poisons and eats bats is challenging
He’s talking about this slug fucking
In fairness it is impressive
Oh god not sure I like the idea of eathworms so big you can HEAR them moving under you
He’s individually inspecting and cleaning his hundreds of eggs every night
Someone buy me a “special optical probe”
UV scorpions
Dancing scorpions
Alright. First episode done.
Insect thread continues with episode two:
Mayflies: I have no mouth but I must fuck
Not sure I knew this about dragonflies
Love the drama with which he unveils this incredible fossilized dragonfly fragment
Ah vaporwave prehistoric dragonfly replica of course
If you like watching bugs getting it on boy do I have the miniseries for you
I seem to recall a sequence of the same process in Microcosmos?
These damselflies show off to prospective mates by stunting through waterfalls
Thought they were going to go into a Painleve Freshwater Assasins thing for a second with the larvae but maybe not
The scale between new and grown caterpillars is wild
CW gross parasitic wasp larvae
CW gross parasitic wasp larvae 2
Doesn’t cap well but the time lapse of a butterfly expanding its newborn wings is fabulous
My favorite butterfly sequence to date is probably the extreme macro textures bit in Hellstrom Chronicles
Speak of the devil:
Thermal bumblebee footage
Watching little bumblebees warm themselves up and seeing it communicated via a camera literally capturing the heat itself? That’s that good shit
Thermal cameras are a wild thing to think about... imagine lighting a scene via heat
David is teasing horny flies with a pea shooter now
He’s holding the largest beetle, a titan beetle. So big it needs to leap from the tops of trees to get airborne:
Cicada time
This episode ends on a pretty funny note. Attenborough starts leading the cicadas around by imitating the females (via snapping)
At which point the taunted male exacts his revenge.
Gonna post the next episode's worth of caps in a bit but first SPIDER CONTENT WARNING gonna tweet that again before posting I know I have spider hating mutuals and they should mute this thread now
