I need the Muslims to understand that they really do not get disability and mental illnesses like they believe they do. Itâs a daily struggle. 24/7. Itâs about housing. and food security. And living arrangements. And proper regular support. Family. No abuse. Etc.
Itâs a lifelong thing. And people cannot check in and out when they get tired or mad or whatever. They cannot trigger people like me because theyâre stressed out. They canât ignore our issues and put off keeping us safe.
They cannot tell us how to address out issues based on what they think is right and then abandon us when we donât do what they want. This isnât support and itâs dangerous.
Deciding how someone should live with their specific symptoms isnât up to any one person and Allah hasnât even tasked you with that job. Nor asked you to give the disability/mental illness community naseehah per se. General reminders are great, but leaving us to fester alone,
and then lecturing us here and there isnât enough to handle our nuanced lives.
Add to that covid, and being Black and the situation is much more complicated.
Some of us are really angry about the community abandoning us and people mistreating us. Making us love being alone. This isnât the way.
