part of the table last season along with one forward from a newly promoted team. Many managers will be looking to have one of these picks to free up funds for the many premium midfielders available. This thread will look at their stats and their opening fixtures.
1. CHRIS WOOD (£6.5m) - Burnley
Last season, Chris Wood finished as Burnley's top scorer with 14 goals in 2,444 minutes, scoring a goal every 175 minutes - slightly over a goal every other game. He had 31 big chances which is more than many premium attackers including: ...

Salah (£12.0m), Mane (£12.0m), Kane (£10.5m) and Aubameyang (£12.0m). In addition, he's the designated penalty taker which adds to his goal potential. He only scored more than one goal in a game once last season against Norwich suggesting that he isn't an 'explosive' player...
but more of one that will return points throughout the season, mostly in the form of 6 points + bonus. Burnley do not score loads of goals but when they do, there is a high chance that Wood will be involved in some way (he is directly involved in 42% of Burnley's goals) and...
Burnley start the season with a blank gameweek and this is unfortunate for those who had planned to have him in their Gameweek 1 teams. Their following fixtures after that are not the hardest, facing Southampton, Newcastle, West Brom, Brighton, Crystal Palace as well as harder...
fixtures against Leicester, Chelsea and Tottenham up until and including Gameweek 9. Their harder fixtures against those teams should not put you off including Wood; Leicester will be without the suspended Jonny Evans while having Justin and Thomas as their fullbacks...
if no new signings are made; Chelsea and Spurs conceded the joint 4th most shots from set pieces which would benefit Wood who had 18 headed attempts on goal (11th among all players).
2. MICHAIL ANTONIO (£6.5m) - West Ham
Antonio finished the season strongly with the second most goals and highest expected goals (xG) between GW30+ and GW38+. The forward got himself 8 goals since the restart of Premier League football last season and 2 of those came against...

teams that finished in the top 4, proving that he is capable of scoring against any team. In these games, he operated as West Ham's main striker which improved his output massively and if he can keep this role ahead of Haller who hasn't been performing well, this would be good...
news for managers looking to have Antonio in their teams. Despite finishing the season extremely well, he's only priced at £6.5m for the next season and this could make him one of the best players in term of value if he can carry on his form into the new season.
Antonio's West Ham start the season with the toughest run of fixtures in the league. They play Newcastle at home in the opening round before facing Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool in that order. Many have been put off by these fixtures,...
however, Antonio got a goal against both Manchester United and Chelsea after the restart, showing that he has the ability to score against defences of all levels. In that run where he faces 6 tough opposition consecutively, I would still expect the West Ham forward to score...
at least 3 goals and he may end up proving to be better value than other cheap forwards that have easier fixtures.
3. CHE ADAMS (£6.0m) - Southampton
Che Adams offers a cheaper alternative to Danny Ings (£8.5) who got a significant £2.5m increase in price from the start of last season. This was because of his brilliant goalscoring record, scoring 22 goals, which led him to be just a...

single goal shy of winning the golden boot. However, towards the end of the 2019/20 season, most of Adam's stats were equal to or even better than his more expensive and popular forward partner Danny Ings. Despite having 3 fewer goals than Ings, he had a superior number for...
expected goals, expected assists, big chances as well as having more shots per 90 minutes since GW30+. If Adams can improve his finishing and secure a place in Southampton's starting XI alongside Ings, he definitely has the potential to outscore him and be a major differential.
Unlike the previous player mentioned, Antonio, Adams and his team have been given very favourable fixtures to start the season. They only have two arguably tough fixtures in the first eight gameweeks and those are against Spurs at home and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
4. ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC (£6.0m) - Fulham
In his season in the EFL Championship, Mitrovic was the top scorer 26 goals while creating another 2 in just 40 games. His last season in the Premier League was two seasons ago when Fulham finished in 19th place and scoring only...

34 goals in 38 games. While looking at this stat without researching further, it'll make Mitrovic seem incapable of scoring a significant number of goals in the top tier of English football. In that season, he was massively unlucky to not score more than his 11 goals.
He had the most shots among forwards in the league while having the 5th most big chances. His conversion rate of 8.4% was one of the worst, however, but if he can improve this, he can easily score a much higher number of goals this season with the number of shots that he takes.
Fulham also have a good start to the 2020/21 season in terms of fixtures. They avoid all of the teams that finished in the top 6 last season for the first nine gameweeks, with their hardest fixtures in that time being Arsenal at home in the opening week and Wolves away in GW4.
They will also face the other two promoted teams in Leeds and West Brom in that time as well as home games against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Everton who do not have the strongest of defences. All of this will be good news to those who currently have the Serbian.
OTHER OPTIONS
In this price bracket, there are a few more options that I would consider. Neal Maupay (£6.5m) could be one to watch but he is too inconsistent for me to have him in my team given the options available. Moise Kean (£6.0m) and Eddie Nketiah (£6.0m) could be good...

options if the former is able to get ahead of Calvert Lewin in the pecking order and if Lacazette leaves Arsenal and Nketiah earns a place in the starting XI. For both these options, I would definitely not have them in my GW1 team...
and would have to wait for a few gameweeks to see how the situations play out.
CONCLUSION
Based on stats alone, my preference would be:
1) Antonio
2) Mitrovic
3) Wood
4) Adams
