Forgive the thread, but I want to talk about something I heard on a recent Waypoint podcast about Mediatonic that I think should be cleared up.
They were talking about Fall Guys and how it and Murder by Numbers marked a new wave for the studio compared to its previous stuff. Now, don& #39;t get me wrong - I am delighted to have MbN considered as part of our renaissance. That means a lot to me. But...
The way it was phrased felt, to me at least, like it was sneering at some of our older stuff. They mentioned games we& #39;d made like Fantastic Beasts and games we still continue to successfully run like Yahtzee With Buddies in a disparaging way, like that was lame or beneath us.
I think it& #39;s important to say that both Murder by Numbers and Fall Guys wouldn& #39;t exist if it wasn& #39;t for those games. All of them were steps on the road, and taught us things. Not only that, we cared hugely about each and every one of them.
In a similar way, I don& #39;t think we& #39;d have been able to take the risk of making games like MbN and Fall Guys if it hadn& #39;t been for the hard work of the Yahtzee teams giving us stability with which to follow other passions with.
While I had nothing to do with it, I& #39;m sure that& #39;s the reason why everyone at MT is listed in the credits of Fall Guys. Because everything is interconnected; everyone plays a part. To be honest, everyone should also have been credited in MbN. I& #39;ll fix that next time.
I guess what I& #39;m trying to say is... as lovely as it is to be considered part of a renaissance or something, I& #39;m not sure entirely how accurate that is, nor am I comfortable with how that concept may devalue the contributions of everyone at the company. END OF THREAD.
NOT END OF THREAD: I should point out that these are my own personal opinions and I certainly can& #39;t speak for the company or anyone related to Fall Guys. But I certainly hope (and imagine) they feel the same!
