Here we go! If someone haven’t noticed, there is still ongoing #AI boom. But have you seen the #EdgeComputing boom? Heard about it? In this #EnablersForFuture talk, we discuss #EdgeAI and what it means to bring computing closer to our local environments. 1/10 #eFuture2020 @OuluTc
#AI enables various useful applications but requires massive-scale data and computational power. When there is also a real-time requirement, #CloudComputing can become too slow. You'll like to have a remote surgery or self-driving car react in a timely manner… 2/10 #eFuture2020
A possible solution is to bring #AI into the #edge of the network, local computing resources. Not replacing cloud but supporting it! However, taking massive computing into smaller devices isn't that straightforward. We need *a lot* of computers working together. 3/10 #eFuture2020
That's where distribution comes into the picture and questions like what can be computed, where, and when. To be truly intelligent, such systems need to make these decisions dynamically. So really, we need #AI for #edge to provide edge for AI. 4/10 #eFuture2020
In the end of the day, the killer app for #EdgeComputing isn't that self-driving car but the network itself. Intelligent Edge that makes computing decisions in real time and can support different dynamic resource allocations, data processing, and #AI tasks. 6/10 #eFuture2020
This is exactly the area where #6G/ #5G with edge-driven #AI plays a fundamental role. More feasible solutions from different areas are needed: networking and communications, distributed algorithms theory, software development and virtualisation, and so on. 7/10 #eFuture2020
And when computing and data are distributed all around the network, how about privacy and security? Who pays the electricity bill and who manages the whole architecture? What kind of business models there should be? Lot of interdiscipline work is needed. 8/10 #eFuture2020
But do we really need #EdgeAI? Is it feasible? What's the role of #AI in the future? Please share your thoughts! All sorts of questions are also welcomed, I'll answer in this thread or if you tag me @ella_peltonen! 9/10 #eFuture2020
