a little thread about oikawa and ushijima vs kageyama and hinata

oikawa is a foil for kageyama and hinata is a foil for ushijima. interestingly though kageyama becomes a better player by becoming more like oikawa while hinata becomes a better player by growing differently from ushijima.

oikawa and ushijima are what kageyama and hinata wouldve been if they didnt both end up in karasuno. ushijima says oikawa shouldve come to shiratorizawa not just as a jab but bc he knows they could've been the freak duo before the freak duo existed.

also i think it's interesting to note that both seijoh and shiratorizawa are both often reduced to their powerful key players, oikawa and ushijima. but karasuno as a team is known for their different strengths and strategies coming together as opposed to that.

both pairs started off as a middle school rivalry where one someday swore to beat the other. but the pair that ended up winning was the one that was able to set that rivalry aside.

someone's probs pointed this all out before but it's still really interesting to me how the players we see get explicitly treated as final bosses by the story were the total opposites of our protags. and it makes me wonder what could've been if oikawa rly did go to shiratorizawa.
