If you think anything factually exists outside of what we’ve socially constructed it to be then you are the dumb one. It’s all fake and made up. What you learned in grade school does not have to be your permanent belief system

Frustrating convo with a prof who told me that “the truth” is a valid idea. The truth is subjective and even several people agreeing on a truth is still influenced by social constructions!!

Free yourself from objectivity, pls. Everything we experience or learn is socially constructed, and usually influenced to be socially constructed by rich white dudes

Do i go along with the way many things have been constructed in order to survive in this society? Yes. Is math still made up? YES

Same with gender, same with science, same with beauty, same with everything.

When you push back against the need for police, you acknowledge that the “objective” need for police to fix crime has been socially constructed - and in fact there can be other truths, other ways. You undermine the idea of what “crime” is, acknowledging it’s racist and classist

Why stop at things that we deem political? Why not question every system, every subject, every body of knowledge, every college major. Even math is capable of harm as we’ve seen with compstat abd predictive policing. It’s time

I’ve seen it come easier in queer community. We see that gender has been socially crafted. Heteronormativity too. My connection to gender changed drastically when i learned about intersex people, varieties in chromosomes, “gendered” hormones existing in all bodies

Makes you move from respecting “science” to scoffing at it. Especially when you see that this science has been primarily used for oppression

Anyway i’ve been drinking red wine so the presentation might be off but i wholeheartedly stand by the substance of this thread
