Nigeria's agricultural production is largely dependent on rainfall.

This aspect of the food system needs to be sustainable enough to respond to the challenges of climate change.

Here are my thoughts:

Climate change is real. And there is a strong relationship between all aspects of food production and climate change, You can't ignore this truth no matter how much you deny it, it's staring at us in the face and we're starting to get anxious/worried.
This risk imposed by climate change may be a motivation or hindrance to practice climate smart agriculture, albeit these are changing times and as farmers we have to move with the changes. That's what makes us resilient. So what can we do if you ask me?
Farmers who are unable to adapt to the changing climate may find alternative livelihoods or remain impoverished.

Others may become resilient by developing alternative systems of production that will help them cope with the changing climate.
Climate Smart Ag is an emerging concept and practice that seeks to adapt agricultural production to climate change and weather variability, while maintaining agricultural productivity, biodiversity and the ecosystem that sustains food security, livelihoods & economic development.
In simpler terms, CSA is the adoption and implementation of eco-friendly agricultural practices, Sustainable management of natural resources and supply of agricultural water and conservation through the expansion of irrigation in order to cope with the challenges of climate chang
In conclusion, Nigeria’s agriculture continued dependence on rainfall might not contribute to long-term agricultural production and food security.

On the other hand, sustainability of agricultural production and food security in Nigeria would rely on irrigation.
