Good morning.
One of the frequent questions that enters my DM is:
“Please how can I start my UI/UX journey (or get better), I have been struggling with it, blablabla”

I’ll tell you this,
1st, you need to sign out of twitter, you don’t need anybody here (that you don’t know)
to validate your work. Yet.
It’s just for a while, you won’t die.

After you did that,
Dedicated every single minute of your life to practice design. Now, practicing doesn’t mean you should Sit on the computer for 24hrs everyday, it means, you are either studying design,
Researching about it, reading about it, discussing about it or doing it. Just compare it to like reading for an exam, the day before the exam starts.

Lastly, apply for apprenticeship.
Just find someone that knows it, close or Mayb not so far, and be his disciple. I’m talking
about resuming at his house or office (officially) at 10am for the day’s class, or virtually, maybe slack or WhatsApp. Do this for a month.

Compare this to “trying to learn a topic on a very tough topic on a course from a scholar/from class tutorials“
Learning anything from 0-100 requires discipline, and no eye-service. You don’t need fame when you are still struggling to know basic designs. When it’s time to go professional, that’s when you should start looking for social media to showcase your portfolio and TARGET clients
more importantly.
This is where you have been getting it wrong, 180likes on your newbie design doesn’t mean you are doing well, at least, not until your teacher gives you his own thumbs up, the likes can be from people who want to encourage you (probably to be better),
It’s not bad I know, maybe that even what you need, but fact is, don’t Submit to that mindset, it’s too cheap.

I hate mediocrity, probably it’s because I learnt design that way... my style will def stay traditional.

I see design like trying to get 5.0 or straight As
in a semester, I know what those scholars do, especially that they don’t have to read outside their houses so people clap from them that “wow, this nigga reads hard”

They do it in-house, it’s a lifestyle. They’d lock the doors, stay indoor or go to libraries, while everyone is
Sleeping, they are not. The things we do in our closet speaks loud eventually.

I tell you, the day you see me overly active on Twitter and WhatsApp, my production reduces. My contacts on whatsapp knows I’m very busy doing so much, my statuses are very scanty.

So Bye.
