Why the contradiction? Because the US diplomats are all pro-Turkey and outsourced US policy to Ankara. Their end goal then is to sabotage the US role in eastern Syria and force the SDF to go through the Syrian regime to play a role in any future negotiations...

But wait...the same US officials then condemn the SDF or PYD for working with the regime...after having isolated them and forced them to do so...this is the the end goal. The US State Dept was always jealous of Centcom's success in eastern Syria and needs Ankara against it

US adversaries tend to have diplomats and military commanders who work on the same team, like how Iran or Russia or Turkey does policy. But foreign countries know that with the US they can divided US officials from eachother.

These countries know this because US officials regularly tell them that they oppose their own government's policies. It's comical but from Lebanon to Turkey to Qatar officials know the US is divided on policies.
