did u know that while Guinevere is nearly always the wife & queen of King Arthur, her adulterous/courtly love affair with Lancelot is much, Much less universal?
there are even Lancelot-centric stories where he falls in love with someone else entirely and lives happily ever after with her.
Actually, let me tell you a little bit about the arthurian character Iblis/Sebile/Sibyl, especially in relationship to Lancelot, since it's relevant to speculation about Cursed's future storytelling choices
I'm not a scholar(tm), i was just curious about non-gwen lancelot romances and down a wikipedia rabbithole after i watched cursed the week it premiered, lol
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebile
Anyway, Iblis/Sebile is an enchantress &/or fairy princess, sometimes villainous, sometimes heroic, often a known associate of Morgan le fey. She's also one of the several different characters sometimes given the title "Lady of the Lake."
Sebile's earliest appearance in arthurian mythos is in a 12th century lancelot-centric story where she is a fairy and the daughter of a sworn enemy of lancelot's foster parent (fosterling Lance is a pretty old trope but i digress).
She falls in love with him in a dream before meeting him in person. He kills her dad. He finds out his real identity. They experience angst & separation but he finds his way back to her. They marry, rule their combined lands, have 4 children, & die of old age on the same day.
Anyway, with what Cursed has already set up, there's an opportunity to combine the venerable Emo Religious Angst Monk lancelot tradition with the less well-known Husband Of Fairy Princess lancelot tradition. Idk if they will, but i'm begging y'all to free your minds from Mallory.
beautifully heartbreaking tragic end arthurian stories arent the only possibility; mega angst-with-a-happy-ending arthurian stories are possible! I mean, they're possible even without historical precedent, bc stories aren't the boss of us, but there IS precedent...
YOU'RE WELCOME, NIMULOTS. Even if canon doesn't go there, our fic can 😘
Iblis/Sebile is a very obscure arthurian character, BUT if you consider the possibility of cursed's nimue being a sort of composite of several different "lady of the lake" characters, rather than just the best-known traditional Nimue then, well...
