if i can be perfectly honest, I think calling Noelle "problematic" is an unintentionally dismissive way of describing a problem that is way more severe than simply her being "racist" or whatever
Here are the facts: Noelle is a good person. Noelle cares about her fans. Noelle is white. Noelle surrounded herself with only white people, whether she knew it or not. Noelle made a racially insensitive statement due to the ignorance that stems from being this.
Noelle isn& #39;t "problematic". Saying she is completely misses the root of the issue here, and that is that good people, allies, friends who are non black will continue to make racially insensitive statements and perpetuate racism because its so deeply ingrained to our system.
You know what that means? it means YOU non black allies who are horrified by what she said are more likely than not to make a comment like this or make your black friends feel uncomfortable at one point. It will take mountains of work and energy to unteach yourself this.
Don& #39;t shift the responsibility from yourselves to blame Noelle for being problematic. She& #39;s a good person who partook in a racist system because that& #39;s what we have all been taught and she hasn& #39;t made the sufficient effort to unteach herself.
ANYONE who doesn& #39;t work for it will do the same. Non black folks, be upset, be frustrated, but there& #39;s nothing that will make me feel more disappointed than to see yall lash outT about this without recognizing that everything she did may be done by you at any moment
Thats all I really have to say about that.
actually an addition since twitter often fails at reading comprehension: this isnt a Noelle defense thread. This is a "non black ppl be wary youre not using this to pretend you can& #39;t be racist" thread
