so apparently the she-ra showrunner (noelle stevenson) is racist. i don't understand how this came out but this is why "noelle" is trending. personally i only watched like 3/4ths of season one and was never in the fandom so i'm not versed in the show or fandom but yikes!!! https://twitter.com/starlightmau/status/1298803105535062016
the problem presented in that first tweet gets worse however. because it turns out actually, this joke is not a one off and is a recurring inside joke. how did nobody realize this was in awful taste? or, you know, Racist,? https://twitter.com/Gingerhazing/status/1298803688677367810
screenshot in case that gets deleted and the drawing featured.
now for anyone who either doesn't know who bow is or doesn't understand why this is offensive, bow is a black character. he is an archer and one of the main recurring characters. (or he was in the first season.) so it has bad implications because of his race for starters.
secondly i'm going to quote my friend here because she put it into words very well: "he’s drawn as a jolly dirty farmer in shabby clothes[, which gives] me very much minstrelsy undertones". he was also created by white people so...
moving on from the Racism there is actually even more drama. i will be returning with noelle's apology. it seems like maybe there was a livestreamed podcast and this is how all this stuff came out.

double trouble is a nonbinary character who uses they/them pronouns. i never saw them in the show but "creepy around kids" is something ppl use to fear monger about trans people -- like, trans ppl are often accused of being predators. so this is a bad look and kinda transphobic.
i don't think the character is inherently transphobic because i've met a lot of nonbinary people who like and identify with them but that joke/trait is bad. please note that noelle is nonbinary and uses any pronouns. also for the unaware, here is a picture of double trouble:
here is noelle's apology. i have screenshotted it as well.
