The endless loops of looting reminded me of what they talked about on the Floodlines podcast about looting in New Orleans during Katrina. The endless loop of the same images made it seem it was more widespread and massive then what it was and how that then spiraled.

People would say they saw looting or exaggerate rapes happening at the super dome, that got repeated and cited by police and the chief, and then it was cited by the press. Repeat repeat.

This is why I am suspect of the citizen app and what’s repeated one social networks about “I’m seeing reports of this...”

During the unrest in May, We had all of Camden covered on a Slack with every major biz, church, Major corner covered with patrol.

We would see folks claiming on FB, twitter or citizen app that things were happening and we had people there watching knowing that nope wasn’t the case.

We put a rule in place: if you didn’t see it with your own eyes then don’t put it in the slack.
