I’ll be staying up following developments in downtown Minneapolis tonight.

What we know so far is that a Black life was lost tonight in Minneapolis. Video evidence that was released shows that it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound that caused the death of the individual. 1/4

But regardless of how the individual died tonight, it’s difficult for Black people to give @MinneapolisPD the benefit of the doubt when a Black life is lost in the proximity of one of their officers. 2/4

We have seen how easy it is for MPD to lie in police reports and mislead folks in official press releases. They did it in the George Floyd murder, and they have done it countless times before that. 3/4

This system has continually proven itself beyond minor tweaks or reforms. It will take a complete tearing down of the system that has caused this mistrust and the rebuilding of one that allows every person in our state to experience personal and communal safety. 4/4
