On Monday night, a "F*** the police" protest in DC had some clips that went viral.

My contributor @T_Jones_Media was there, and this thread will show a lot more of what happened.

Activists would go to restaurants and ask patrons to raise fists to proclaim "Black lives matter."
"White silence is violence!"

This is my contributor's angle for the first half of the confrontation that went viral, in which activists criticized a woman who did not raise her fist when told to do so.

The group is a collab of All Out DC, DC Protests & the They/Them Collective.
After about 3 minutes, the activists left. The situation did not evolve into physical violence.

@ChuckModi1 told her "we need white people to have humanity for black lives that are getting shot in the back."

"That's what this was about, but you stood your ground. Good for you."
Protesters pushed a few newspaper vending machines into the street and set fires to some trash cans. Police pushed them back into place.

A sign for former D.C. Councilman and current D.C. Chamber of Commerce chair Vincent Orange (D) burned in a trash can.
Around the intersection of 18th St NW & T St NW, a fight broke out in the middle of the protest.

Content warning for violence: As one woman was already on the ground, a man punched her in the head.

A protester forced my freelancer @T_Jones_Media's camera shut, ending the shot.
When the group arrived at Black Lives Matter Plaza just north of the White House, many of them attempted to push or kick the Lafayette Square Park fence down.

Secret Service fought back from behind the fence but didn't attempt to make arrests.
Just after the event dispersed, a confrontation occurred between a man in a wheelchair - wielding a knife - and the protesters.

The man had apparently been with them during the march, but @T_Jones_Media tells me this fight stemmed from a claim that he groped an activist.
As the man in the wheelchair swung a knife at the crowd, police arrived. The man put the knife to his own throat.

Despite him having swung at them, the crowd begged police, "Don't shoot him!"

He fell out of his wheelchair and was tased unconscious and arrested.
Police formed a perimeter around the handicapped man who they had tased unconscious.

They initially didn't appear to administer first aid, and protesters asked to let a medic in.

Police did not let a street medic assist the man.
Eventually, an ambulance came and the man was loaded in. The crowd then dispersed.
I wanted to take this chance to detail & contextualize a situation that had a short clip going viral.

To that end, I'd like to share that I've filmed this exact group several times, and it's virtually never violent or as confrontational as Monday night. https://twitter.com/FordFischer/status/1292332937887780864
This same group has, for example, gone into Target and rallied inside the store.

The events are usually very direct with the intentional effect of making people uncomfortable without physical violence, thus literally forcing them to see issues directly. https://twitter.com/FordFischer/status/1277106577376448512
Here's the full, 4K video summary of the protest itself that occurred on Monday.

Again, I hope this video helps illuminate a situation for which a small clip from another reporter went ultra-viral.

Shot by @T_Jones_Media for @N2Sreports.

I believe that especially in the cases of violent police interactions, having unedited footage is critical.

This is a completely uncut beginning-to-end shot of what happened when a man began swinging at the activists with a knife and was tased by police.
Correction to earlier tweet: I described former D.C. Councilman Vincent Orange (D) as “current D.C. Chamber of Commerce chair.”

He resigned from that position June 30, 2020 to run for At Large City Council.

I regret the error.
