I love the persistence of the resisting the police crowd. Yes it& #39;s not a good idea to resist but the penalty for that isn& #39;t death. It seems as if people of color who resist are a lethal threat to law enforcement. I saw a guy murdered unarmed running FROM police for child support.
My skin color is a weapon & I& #39;m seen as a threat period. I& #39;ve lived that. Those of you who have spent a lifetime living/working around black folks don& #39;t feel this fear but many don& #39;t have those experiences so any sudden movement or disagreement is a threat. That has to be fixed.
I& #39;ve seen white folks have way more freedom of expression & action even when I myself felt the cop needed force. But nothing happens. They are much more patient even in the face of much more dangerous situations when non black. I just want everyone to experience such Grace.
I understand the dangers for the cops in Wisconsin where I now live. But I also can picture a very clear scenario where even with the possible danger of Jacob reaching into a vehicle they still would not have fired. They would& #39;ve continued without lethal force, justified or not.
I witnessed unfair treatment growing up in inner-city DC. Majority black folks. But as I moved on to a much different population in college I saw white people disrespect cops both verbally & physically without penalty but if I even looked at an officer wrong I had a huge problem.
I know many white folks who would never condone this feel conflicted right now. You believe in law enforcement & your experience is different from the picture being painted. I feel for you but I can tell you it& #39;s all real. In all this I remain respectful but know it& #39;s all real.
Consider the context of the situation. Officers have to be able to better manage this as well. He wasn& #39;t the focus of the issue that had them there. They could& #39;ve just let him leave. This issue wasn& #39;t big enough to involve loss of life. The best officers are also great managers.
