HAPPENING NOW: Attorney General Josh Kaul ( @WisDOJ) is providing an update on the shooting of #JacobBlake.
Details of the incident, according to Kaul, are as follows:
➡️Kenosha Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of 40th St. A female caller said her boyfriend was not supposed to be on the premises.
➡️Officers attempted to arrest Blake.
➡️Officers used a taser to try and stop Blake, but were not able to do so.
➡️Blake walked around his car and opened the door to the driver's side.
➡️Officer Rusten Sheskey grabbed and held Blake's shirt, and then fired his gun seven times into Blake's back.
➡️No other officers fired their weapons.
➡️ @KenoshaPolice do not have body cameras.
"What happened yesterday night in Kenosha is despicable," @WisDOJ says.

He says the people of Kenosha should be leading the way.
➡️Officials say social media has created demand for immediate action and decisions, as opposed to calm resolutions based on an investigation.
➡️Under Wisconsin law, an independent investigative agency with no direct connection to the incident reviews the incident.
➡️Anthony Davis, local president of the NAACP in Kenosha, says people must allow the Blake family to heal.

"This incident came to Kenosha unexpectedly. Kenosha is not a place where we see things like this every day. We need to come together."
➡️Davis says the process of investigating this case will not be quick. He wants the community to be patient.
➡️He also calls for people to deescalate the violence in the city.

"Let us have our say...Let us be patient. But above all, let us keep God in the process."
➡️James Hall, president and CEO of Urban League of Racine and Kenosha, asks Kenosha to obey tonight's curfew.
➡️He wants the community to be able to be hurt and process emotions. He says the eruption in the city is based on years of oppression.
➡️Hall says, "We cannot continue to meet force with force." He wants communication from both sides.
➡️He also notes that while property can be restored, lives cannot be given back once they're taken.

"The time is now for change."
➡️"If Kenosha can make this change, the entire country will follow," Hall says.
➡️The Attorney General says the investigation is moving quickly. Material witnesses have been interviewed.
➡️The investigation is still on-going.
➡️While they want to move quickly, they also want to make sure their investigation is thorough.
➡️He says he cannot disclose who specifically was interviewed.
➡️He says he believes the government needs to work to ensure agencies are funded to have body cameras for their officers.
➡️When asked if he could confirm if #JacobBlake was the boyfriend who was not supposed to be on the premises in the initial call to authorities, the Attorney General said he could not elaborate on the details.

It is unclear if Blake was the boyfriend in question.
➡️He did confirm that Blake had a knife in his possession.
➡️He will not name the other officers involved at this time, but said he will in the future.
➡️Kaul says he wants justice in this case.
➡️District Attorney Michael D. Graveley says decisions about charging and holding the suspect from last night's shooting in Kenosha, Kyle Rittenhouse (17), will be made by the end of the day, tomorrow.
➡️Kaul says he spoke on the phone with the @Bucks earlier today, after they decided to sit out their playoff game tonight. While he says reception was weak, he applauds their leadership and activism.
➡️Kaul notes that Wisconsin has the highest incarceration rate of Black men in the U.S.
➡️He says regardless of the outcome of this case, that statistic is a clear sign to him that Wisconsin has work to do to break down racially-based disparities.
➡️Kaul says one of the ways the state can improve is by re-prioritizing which crimes are enforced and which cases are pursued. He says he wants to get to the root of issues and protect the public, not focus on lower-level crimes.
Kenosha's curfew is set to go into effect in just 10 minutes.
