My teammates and I went out in McAllen, TX after a game. While waiting for my uber an officer decided to harass & then handcuff me for “being on the street” while there were over 50+ ppl of various ethnicities outside. I probably go to jail that night if I didn’t play basketball
Never shared that story before but I post that to say the plight is real. You can literally be doing nothing wrong & an officer can just feel the need to come & antagonize you. Salute to my teammates and the opposing team for having my back or who knows how that interaction ends
My story isn’t unique, in fact in comparison to everything currently going on my encounter was seemingly insignificant. I just felt it was my prerogative to bring awareness to my personal situation so people can see that this stuff happens to us on a daily basis.
Ppl misinterpreting my 1st tweet. I was handcuffed for simply being outside not standing on the street literally. Cop told me to go home, I told him my uber would be there within the next few mins. There were several locals & others still outside. I was the only one cuffed
