I know nobody thinks digital blackface is a real thing and that it sounds like a reach but like it genuinely does mean something fishy that many nonblack people use primarily imagery and vernacular of Black people as memes and caricature and jokes on the internet.
not to sit on a high horse or anything but this is why i generally have a hard time with tiktok because I’m just not really... prepared for the overusage and over presentation of black aesthetics, vernacular, & imagery by white suburban teenagers as a way of joking.
I just scrolled through a random white suburban teenager’s twitter and saw so much “it’s the ___ for me” and “teeeaaa” and more Nene Leaks gifs and Tiffany Pollard gifs than I’ve ever seen in my life.
I think a lot abt the discourse of “nonblack people shouldn’t overuse & capitalize on AAVE + black aesthetics” & many people think it’s a reach but like...facts? it’s not fair that Black people are regarded as uneducated for these things while everyone else is regarded as trendy.
I just reread this tweet and imma need a thesaurus
