No, Afrikaans is a creole (hmm also anti-language) made up of dutch, african and asian languages and was started by slaves. The first Afrikaans texts were written in Arabic and it was popularized in what is now known as Bo-Kaap and used in many muslim schools at the time + https://twitter.com/supabhova/status/1298686742984372227
The dialect many cape coloureds use like ‘borrels’ (bottels), ‘mirrag’ (middag) etc was how many people of colour of the cape spoke and still do. The ‘suiwer’ Afrikaans is what the Dutch, living in the Cape at the time, colonized.
Afrikaans was recorded and taught at a muslim school in Bo-Kaap and the language was later named as ‘Afrikaans’ by a man who was a teacher at a Dutch school in Paarl and was further popularised from there.
The Afrikaans language was stolen from us and that is the hill I’ll die on. It is the home language of many Cape coloureds and the history of the language is part of our history and culture.
please don’t come for me if I’ve made a mistake, let’s talk. I’m studying Afrikaans (and Dutch, unwillingly) incl. the socio-linguistics & learning more and more each day. This language is important to me because it’s part of my history and I’m not gna let people take that away
Also!! Take up mf space! Speak your truth! Most of my lecturers (maybe all tbh idk I don’t see them anymore) are white but trust that’s gna change IA 🤚🏽✊🏽
