it makes me so sad to see analysis that seems to focus on riots as if they happen in a vacuum. regardless of who lights the first fire, riots don't happen without a widespread, righteous fury, and i really do mean fury, burning in the hearts of these communities
they're not specifically about jacob blake, george floyd, or breonna taylor. these are some of the latest names added to the very long list of people mangled and murdered by those who are supposed to protect them. and these instruments of state power often walk free afterward
each protest, each riot you see is about the whole list of people who have met this fate -- not just the latest one in the headlines. because generations of americans, all over the country, know both this pain and this helplessness
riots are bad, yet they keep happening. not just recently; history is well-dotted with riots like these. because america routinely shows zero interest in solving the conditions that breed and eventually ignite the riots, every time. we just beat the enraged back into docility
there's so much repair to be done, i don't even know where one would begin. especially if many americans look at all of this and simply see "antifa terrorists," unruly negroes, or whatever else is either a lie or missing the point. it's just gonna keep happening again and again.
not a threat, just a read.
