I don't trust programmers who don't program outside of their job. Programming isn't just a career, it is a tool that has uses throughout normal life. For many problems, a program is the solution. It would be like a plumber refusing to use their skill set to fix a leaky sink.
Even if the plumber doesn't love their job, it would be strange for them to swear off their skills except when they are on the clock or be offended if asked if they ever fix plumbing issues on their time off.
And yet I see people trying to normalize this very behaviour for programmers. No, I will not hire people who do not see programming as a general skill, with wide spanning uses, just as I see speaking or writing.
