I& #39;m starting a project & need ideas.
It& #39;s recap time.

1) Build for the few, who want a lot
Almost all successful startups started this way.
Start narrow/niche by optimizing for depth.
Ask yourself, who wants this right now, even as a crappy prototype?

2) Live in the future, build what’s missing
Narrow/niche startups often can& #39;t foresee the path to expansion. So how can you predict which ideas are good?

3) But what’s missing? Build what’s interesting.
Run a background process checking for missing things.
Pay attention to what "chafes" you.
Work on difficult problems, driven by curiosity.
Pick projects that seem "cool" → naturally leading you to the edge

4) Scratch your own itch
Good ideas often stem from personal problems. There& #39;s a high chance other people have the same problem.
Being the maker & user means the cycle of building & testing can happen inside your own head.

5) Explore new domains
A fruitful source of ideas comes from mixing your core domain (software) with a new one (genetics)
Especially if domain 2 (genetics) have not solved their problems with domain 1 (software)
Fresh eyes = ignorance & challenging the status quo

6) Competitors are a good sign
Good ideas should seem obvious and feel like you& #39;re too late
It& #39;s very rare to be killed by a competitor
Focus on urgent user needs that competitors are overlooking
A crowded market = high demand for a problem that no one is solving sufficiently

7) Turn off your filters
Valuable ideas w/ little competition are often unsexy, tedious, unpleasant, and or scary
Most startups have obstacles along the way. It& #39;s irrational to avoid these
Turn off your filters → Ask, what problem do I wish someone else would solve for me?

8) Bonus → Hedgehog Concept @level5leaders
Companies viewing the world through a single defining idea (hedgehogs) outperform all others. They focus on 3 elements.
Ask yourself:

9) Bonus → Novelty-Utility Matrix @jerondanielpaul
The best ideas are highly novel + highly useful, but very rare.
It& #39;s smarter to aim for useful over novel:
→ Avoids strange ideas (sitcom ideas)
→ Higher chance of "success"
→ Still a small chance of revolutionary ideas

Build, iterate and validate ideas quickly by applying the @leanstartup method
Stop dilly-dallying with ideas, brainstorms & drawing diagrams (ahem).
Be at the leading edge, build what& #39;s interesting, validate quicky, learn & pivot or preserve.

Holy crap... Or, you can ignore the above because GPT-3 is here.
