/ As a former journalist and a witness of the 721 incident, I would like to make a few clarifications in response to the recent remark made by Chan Tin Chu, senior superintendent of Police (Crime NTN HQ), regarding the 721 incident in #HongKong:
/ On the claim that ‘the unfortunate event was caused by escalations of the two groups in Yuen Long station’: There was already a person suffering a bleeding injury by white-shirt men before my arrival, and the arrival of Mr Lam Cheuk-Ting, a lawmaker just arrested for 'riot'.
/ The alleged ‘congregation of two groups’ does not reflect the fact that white-shirts were gathering outside the paid area of the station, surrounding and attacking ordinary citizens inside the paid area.
/ On the Police’s accusation on me that my livestream “filmed only one side of the event”, and “misguide the public with its narration”: During the live broadcast, almost all corners of the station, white-shirts, the alleged ‘black-shirts’ and ordinary citizens have been filmed.
/ The only “side” not filmed was that of the police, for they weren’t even present in the station during the attacks. Nor did they come up with any explanation for their blatant, prolonged absence from multiple attack sites.
/ On whether the Police is trying to distort the facts of 721: An unedited version of that live stream video is accessible on social media. It is for the public to judge if the video and the narration in it instigated the conflict on that day.
/ It is not possible for the authority to distort the facts of the 721 incident unless the government of Hong Kong shut down Facebook and YouTube in Hong Kong. As long as all the video clips of that day are still accessible to the public, their attempts will always be futile.
/ On whether I am worried that I will be arrested for my presence in Yuen Long station on 21th July: I noticed that the police did not identify me as a reporter but “a woman in yellow vest”, and the claim that “doing a live broadcast is no exemption from criminal offences”.
/ I emphasise again that I was performing my duty as a journalist at Yuen Long station on that day, and I have only restated facts I witnessed on that day ever since. If stating facts is a crime under this government, the police can come and arrest me at any time.
