#NEW Ontario has released #covid19 guidance on school outbreak management. Key highlights:
• school outbreak defined as TWO or more confirmed cases in students/staff within 14 days
• once outbreak declared, public health will determine if partial or full school closure required
MORE:
• the outbreak does not need to be over to re-open the school
• cohorts without evidence of transmission can be gradually return
• outbreak declared over when at least 14 days have past since last outbreak/no further symptomatic students or staff with tests pending
MORE:
• students w/ symptoms during school day: principal will coordinate student pick up & designate area to isolate student until parent/guardian arrives
• testing will not be mandatory for students
• close contact of case will be required to stay home 14 days after exposure
MORE:
• if parent tests positive: not obligated to inform school of test result
• strongly recommended children in household where parent has tested positive stay home & isolate 14 days
• teacher should support continuation of learning for any students who need to isolate
MORE:
• any student/staff who tests positive must isolate 14 days & shouldn't return until cleared by public health
• public health will notify school & determine transmission risk to others
• classroom cohorts will be considered at high risk of exposure & directed to isolate
