Completely agree on how to help refugees, especially the acts which challenge unfair and innacurate myths #1. We see every day that refugees are humble, caring individuals simply trying to make the best out of a difficult situation. Never stop reminding people of this truth! https://twitter.com/H_R_Cartwright/status/1295404989502959617
Some others: #2. support businesses and initiatives run by refugees and migrants, check out @TERNrefugee #3. write to your MP or attend a rally (when appropriate) to express solidarity and put pressure on politicians. Sign petitions, collectivize and convince the unconvinced.
#4. join local mutual aid groups on #Facebook to help individuals directly. Search for your local area and 'asylum/refugee support'. #5. volunteer your skills to the organisations who are doing their best to make life enriching for refugees. @bigleaffoundat1 @SalusburyWORLD
#6. donate your old bike to @The_BikeProject or a laptop to @SocialBoxBiz. Clothes and food are important but assistance doesn't stop there. Donations to charities who run psychosocial support programmes also go a very long way.
#7. get in touch with your local council. What services are they providing for refugees and asylum-seekers who are destitute and could they do with your help? #8. Send a letter of solidarity to a refugee http://www.refugeesupportnetwork.org/sendingsolidarity
#9. ask around for accomodation options. @RefugeesAtHome are always looking for hosts. There is no harm in asking. #10. become an educational mentor. refugees deserve education but it's not easy. https://www.refugeesupportnetwork.org/pages/23-educational-mentoring
#11. support migrant lead initiatives like @WeArePhosphoros, @migratefulUK, @RefugeeWeek and @MigrantVoiceUK. There are lots more, please add!
#12. help support refugees and migrants into work, @refugeecouncil, @BB_UK1 and @WJRelief all do amazing work. There are lots of others, please add!
Finally, have hope. We are not there yet but so many people are working hard to bring about justice and fair treatment for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Spread the word because change is coming.
