1/ Dear @OregonGovBrown, @TedWheeler, @GovEvers, @chicagosmayor

We #DemandProtection.

The riots—arson, looting, assaults, and yes murders—have gone on for *months* on your watch. We know you want to reform your police forces and are glad you still support the right to protest.

2/ But in your effort to show your solidarity with those angry about police brutality, you have deliberately ignored massive problems that affect all of us. We cannot walk freely, do business, or do much of anything in riot zones.

And now it's threatening to get much worse.

3/ Those of us with an ear to the ground hear rumblings about the necessity of citizens getting together in armed bands to do the job of the police. This would likely lead to open warfare in the street much bloodier than anything we've seen yet. It would be an avoidable DISASTER.

4/ Please, please do not let it come to opposing, armed gangs.

You have also probably seen the polls that indicate people want an effective, humane, active police force, and they *really* hate the rioting. You know this! You letting it go on will be your terrible legacy.

5/ You have it in your power to stop the rioting.

Empower the police to take *decisive* (of course, humane) action against violent rioters. Get them reinforcements from nearby towns or the state, if necessary.

Call out the National Guard in overwhelming force. Do what you must.
