Stephen lost his housing and job as a result of the #COVID19 pandemic. He stayed in hotels but when his savings ran out he became homeless. He started sleeping outside under a bridge and was there for 2-3 months.
Stephen was approached by the #CityofTO Street Outreach team who helped him get interim housing in midtown. City staffer Malcolm then worked with Stephen on a permanent housing plan.
Just a few days ago, Stephen moved to his own place and is truly happy and grateful to have this opportunity. With this housing, he can now focus on getting back to work and putting his life back together.
Since mid-March, the City has permanently housed more than 1,500 people through the Rapid Housing Initiative. For those in need of shelter, contact Central Intake at 416-338-4766. The City works with clients on housing plans & with partners to offer clients support services.
