I’m downtown for @TheTRiiBE outside of CPS HQ where protesters are demanding #CopsOutOfCPS ahead of the Board of Ed. Decision on the CPS/CPD contract

Follow along on here for updates
Ayee it’s getting started!
“Part of celebration is joy”

A quote from one of the speakers today before @djillestdoitall took over.
It’s looking as much like a celebration as it does a protest down here. These recent actions have been showing that the 2 aren’t mutually exclusive 🤷🏾‍♂️

Also not sure whether everyone here has heard about the reforms to the SRO program
I cannot lie... this DJ is COLD
Youth/students are about to give their testimonies out here at the same time that testimonies are being given by parents inside CPS HQ
This is prolly the smallest police presence I’ve seen at any of these actions
They about to feed the people
Updates on the hearing are being given now!

20th ward Alderman Jeanette Taylor replaces music over the speakers
Taylor urges the Board to remove SROs

“Your appointments are temporary, but your decisions today will be remembered forever.”
Alderman Vazquez of the 40th is speaking now against keeping SROs

“I want to speak from a place of reason and logic “
“35 officers have complaints against them... If this were any other contractor, they would be gone.”

Vazquez came prepared
Aldermen's testimonies are done. Truss gets on the mic and the crowd boo's.

One person yells "You ain't said shit Truss!"
"They can't stop the revolution!"
. @djillestdoitall back at it
A #CopsOutCPS Mannequin challenge
Performances have started

JJ is up first:
We’re back to listening to the hearing. They’re sticking with the reforms they spoke of earlier. It is up to LSCs to determine whether to keep SROs
The mood is considerably less energetic after hearing that the Board has opted not to end the contract but to reform the program
So remember that lady from the #BreakThePiggyBankChicago...

She’s back out here today and they wasn’t having it😬
The official vote is happening soon, we’ll see if anything has changed since Board members shared their last takes
The Chicago Board of eduction has voted. SROs will remain with the given reforms to the program. The vote was 4-2-1
Been up since 1 AM so I’m headed out of here for now
