What to expect from #Kaftrio?
A personal account and insight into my own experience.

#Kaftrio works.
It’s more advanced than any other CF med I’ve ever taken. It doesn’t make sense to think of it in the same league as any other CF med. It’s like trying to compare a smart phone with a couple of tins connected by string. Incomparable.
#Kaftrio compounds over time.
Before: Mucus filled lungs and stomach, can’t breathe, no appetite, no energy. Day 2 worse than day 1. Opportunity compromised.

After: Clear airways, empty stomach, surging appetite, full of energy. Day 2 better than day 1. Opportunity compounds.
#Kaftrio = time.
Think of all the hours you’ve spent on CF. The balance between CF and life slowly but surely shifting further towards CF. Prepare for that balance to rapidly swing in the other direction. We can’t go back in time, but we can, finally, get time back.
#Kaftrio isn’t a cure.
And as such, treatments continue. However, what was once an arduous fight, is now a simple ‘check’ - Is there anything to get rid of? If yes, more airway clearance. Invariably there’s nothing, therefore treatment times have reduced by a factor of 10+
#Kaftrio has it’s ‘quirks’.
Say goodbye to a good night sleep.
Bloating is now a thing I have to manage.
I’m now actively managing my weight (in the other direction).
#Kaftrio = fitness.
If you workout, watch the numbers increase. If you don’t workout, you will. If you walk or run, watch the distance increase. If you don’t walk or run, you will. If you hate exercise, you won’t.
#Kaftrio goes beyond the physical.
Whether you experience mental health struggles or not, with Kaftrio you’re given every opportunity to experience true peace of mind. In the words of Doc Emmett Brown “...your future isn’t written yet... so make it a good one”.
#Kaftrio - get used to the comments.
Friends: “Mate, have you put weight on?!”
Colleagues: “Wow, you’re looking great!“
Doctors: “This is unbelievable!”
Workout partners: “Mate, slow down, I’m knackered!”
#Kaftrio delights.
We become used to issues in life that are beyond our control. Waking up coughing was something I accepted. When we accept something, it’s no longer seen as a problem. When that deeply-rooted problem disappears, it surprises and delights time and time again.
#Kaftrio comes with guilt and certainty.
Guilt - I got it first.
Guilt - others had to wait.
Guilt - others may never get the chance.
Guilt - others never got the chance.
Certain - I won’t waste this opportunity, take it for granted or forget how lucky I am.
P.S. If you’re about to embark on your #Kaftrio journey, I’d love to read your story as you start to experience it. Use the hashtag ThanksKaftrio and let’s share our thoughts. Our anecdotes may even help other countries as they continue to fight for access.
