This is a great first step!

Next, tell folks exactly what you are looking for:
- what questions are you ruminating on?
- what skills are you trying to sharpen?
- what circumstances (your job, your editor, your newsroom) are you trying to change? https://twitter.com/alexisjreports/status/1298378248917835777">https://twitter.com/alexisjre...
Mentorship works best when it is driven by the mentee. Which can be really tough if you are a mentee facing imposter syndrome!

But be explicit in what kind of help you need and keep asking til you get the support you& #39;re looking for.
Easy ways to invite someone to commit an act of mentoring with you:
- could you help me select my clips for an upcoming application?
- would you review my resume and give me some feedback?
- can you help me prepare for an interview by running mock Qs?
For me, my mentors often act as surrogate parents. Just someone with more life experience than I have had who can offer an Adult Perspective.

They& #39;ve helped me navigate toxic bosses, negotiate raises, leverage outside offers, etc.

Mostly they& #39;ve helped shape my grown self.
Another thing: mentorship is something that grows over time. It& #39;s very unlikely that you will meet a new person at a conference and that person will instantly become your mentor.

Follow up. Stay in touch. Ask for a little help here, a little support there. It& #39;ll happen!
