"Last night there were armed militia groups on the scene of the protests in Kenosha," @writerbarton.
"Our understanding is that police cars screaming down the street [saw the shooter]...but they didn't seem to realize he was the shooter," @writerbarton says.
"The police seemed content to let these armed militiamen move freely through the street and take up positions on rooftops," @writerbarton says.
"The police have not given much of an explanation for what happened at all," @writerbarton says.

In the aftermath of the shooting, "emotions were high immediately...the thing that was really troubling to me is that there were three children in the car and there were children on the other side of the car," @writerbarton says.
"In [Wisconsin], the governor is a Democrat but the state legislature is completely controlled by Republicans," @writerbarton says.
