Happy Women's Equality Day!
To celebrate, I wrote about a fun, forgotten piece of Utah history.
On Election Day 1920, a Utah woman became the first mother in U.S. history to vote for her son to become president.

Big thanks to historian John Sillito for teaching me about this story.
I've had so much fun talking to researchers and experts for our suffrage stories this year.

Also, some info about Women's Equality Day:
Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to ratify the 19th Amendment on Aug. 18, 2020.
But it wasn't until Aug. 26, 2020, that the U.S. secretary of state certified the amendment, officially making it law.

It's important to remember, though, that the 19th Amendment mainly benefited white women, as many women of color weren't even considered citizens at the time. Their fight for equal voting rights continued for decades after 1920.

Spoiler: A female lawmaker named Elizabeth Hayward led the way. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2019/08/26/this-utah-woman-proposed/
