The annual @pdkintl poll on American attitudes toward public education was just released. Here, to my mind, are the highlights [thread]:
85% of Americans would like to see Washington focus more on attracting and retaining good teachers. This is a tidal shift from the early 2000s, when teacher eval (think VAM) and unmaking collective bargaining were cornerstones.
45% of Americans approve of Trump's performance on education. 53% disapprove. This is a historical low, but to me this signals how poorly the left has tied DeVos to Trump, as well as how ineffectively they have framed DeVos as a legitimate threat (rather than an airhead).
90% of Black Americans say that Washington should protect students from discrimination. Only 62% of whites agree (a figure driven by white conservatives, among whom only 50% think it's a good idea).
