[ a guide to improve your notion đź’ ]
~ a thread
notion is a popular app used for productivity and learning! it's another digital notetaking app that a lot of studytwt users love to use. if you sign up with a school e-mail you can unlock the pro version for free! this thread is about how to make your space look nicer.
1 - change your font!
in the upper right corner of the window you should see three dots. click it and you'll open up a new window! here you can change your font to be one of the three options. if you dont like the large margins of the workspace, click "full width"!
2 - upload your own headers and icons
to add a header on a new page, simply click "add cover". once the cover has loaded, hover over it again and on the right you should see "change cover". you can choose a premade one, search for one on unsplash, or upload your own!
to change the icon, hover over the cover again and click the "add icon" button. it will automatically add an emoji - click the emoji and you can either choose to change it to another one or upload an image of your own! it's a lot like assembling a twitter layout.
3 - columns
notion registers that "chunk" of text separated by an "enter" as a "block". hover over a block you should see six dots on the left. you can click and drag a block by the dots. drag it over next to your first line until you see a blue line. now you have columns!
4 - images
to find all of notions features, simply start a new block by hitting enter, and then press "/" a new window should open. you can hover over each feature for a brief description of what it does. scroll to or simply type "image". now select your photo!
you can click and drag your image around just as you would with text - just look for the six dots on the upper left and drag wherever you would like! to resize an image, hover over the black bar on the right. then drag left and right to resize.
5 - headers
these can be made by either hitting "/" and scrolling+selecting header, or by hovering+right clicking an existing block and going to turn into > header. the only difference between the 3 header types is size.
6 - quotes
these are really nice for filling empty spaces in your notion! hit "/" and select or type "quote" and select "quote". type whatever quote you want!
7 - background colors
add background colors to text! simply hover over the chunk you'd like to add a color to and then right click > color > background > pick any color you want!
8 - dividers
add dividers between paragraphs to, well, divide paragraphs. hit enter after your paragraph and in the space between your first paragraph and the next, type "/" and scroll to "divider" or type it. now you have a divider!
