Today: a new THREADhttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">of sheroes: women who disappeared into their menfolk. 1st Dorothy Livesey Reynolds, a key geologist who worked w/ her husband at Edinburgh Uni but wasn& #39;t paid as it was deemed & #39;inappropriate& #39; WHAT? She won a Lyell medal & was 1st female member of @news_RSE /1
Mathematicians & sisters Jane & Flora Sang pioneered work on logarithmic tables originally credited to this guy Edward (their dad) It wasn& #39;t until 1874 they were honoured by @news_RSE as the originators. So many women disappear into their relations& #39; biographies. Sheesh! /2
Next a group of women: the Bondagers, coerced into unpaid labour they often were offered as a & #39;bonus& #39; to their husband& #39;s paid work - that continued in farming communities into the 20th century. Sue Glover wrote a play about them. The 2nd pic is the cast from @lyceumtheatre

Y& #39;all know this lady cos I tweeted about her recently. William Wallace& #39;s mother = Lady Margaret Crawford but this is the monument to her at Dunfermline Abbey. I always get cross cos SHE HAD A NAME! In fairness, they hope to do something about this monument but still. Bah! /4
This is fierce Shetlander, Mrs Edwin Muir = Agnes Neill Scott AKA Willa Muir translated Kafka& #39;s work with Edwin (tho she noted he & #39;only helped& #39;) Willa, I believe you! .5
Mrs Charles Rennie Mackintosh = Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh Artist in her own right whose work was revered by her husband. & #39;Margaret has genius,& #39; he wrote, & #39;I have only talent& #39; Probs true, Charlie. That rose motif we all love in his work came from Margaret./6
Henrietta Liston, who I will be writing about in detail soon (watch this space) married to Sir Robert Liston - British diplomat. She was a botanist & diarist. Her papers are in @natlibscot. She is 1 of the most endearing voices I& #39;ve found in the archive. Pretty much forgotten. /7
Mrs Aneurin Bevan = Jennie Lee, an MP and founder of the Open University. Brilliant in her own right and memorialised a wee bit, but hey, not enough considering all the good she did, right? /8
And please feel free to add more lasses eclipsed by their menfolk, cos that& #39;s the glory of threads - everyone gets to join in too....
