"Can I just get one hour of no rain, wind, or hail" I mutter to myself as I am relentlessly trudging up what I pray is the final climb of this godforsaken race.

It is 1 am, and I am at mile 89~ish of the Grindstone 100

*A short thread
At this very moment I am simultaneously the most miserable yet happiest I have felt in a long time. Confusing, I know.

This was one of the times I had a chance to "meet myself".

Let me explain.
Grindstone is a 100 mile out-and-back race deep in the heart of the George Washington National Forest of Virginia.

It climbs 23k feet and descends 23k feet and has the classic European start time of 6pm instead of morning
100 mile mountain 🏔 races are one of the best ways to test the limits of your physical and mental fortitude

I firmly believe everyone capable should do it atleast once

For those 24-48 hours nothing else matters

No work issues
No family issues
No anxiety about the future
It’s just you , your thoughts, and a headlamp for 100 miles

Your life gets simplified to moving forward and eating

Your feet and legs want to stop but the power of your mind propels you forward

You learn the most important aspect of life

You are capable of anything
