The tour guiding group I work with, that helps me survive between/ through bad academic contracts, continues to floor me with simple good humane work practices. When I& #39;m sick there& #39;s cover, we& #39;ve had robust discussions about gender inequality that have led to changes, it pays.
There& #39;s something about the immediacy of payment that makes the act of work within capitalism feel much fairer. I did the task, now I have money. There& #39;s no labyrinth of paperwork and 4 month wait, I can& #39;t mess up a piece of internal finance admin and not be paid.
The better the work conditions get, the harder we all work collectively to maintain them. We don& #39;t operate within the smoke screen of & #39;status& #39; and we also aren& #39;t festering with alienation. At the Christmas parties we laugh about how no one ever leaves this job and that& #39;s telling
