seeing lots of "arm yourselves bc they& #39;re going to do this more" but listen: you gotta join a group that can not only teach you how to properly handle your weapon, but also teach you why in situations like that it is only good as a deterrent
if you react to one guy in a group of armed guys shooting into a crowd , by returning fire, his buddies are going to take that as a reason to go loud and open fire. you WILL get even more people killed
need to know when and where to just fuckin run when the deterrent nature of rifles on your shoulder fails, bc firing a gun in defense with those numbers will make things far worse unless you& #39;re apart from the unarmed protesters, or you massively outnumber their guns with yours
lotta people will react emotionally to the moment. it takes a lot of training to undo that so you know when disengaging or creating a distraction will save more lives, and if you don& #39;t commit to that, you bringing arms to a protest is actively adding danger
there are many orgs, SRA being one of them, that will teach you firearm safety. I don& #39;t know where you get the other parts, but if you& #39;re looking into buying a gun you better be joining one of the gun edu groups like SRA or paying the gun& #39;s cost in classes
but the left is very "get a gun times are scary" and not "the worst time to have a gun is when your opponents will take self defense as a reason to open up on civilians, and have casus belli for when they have to justify it to the judges"
you& #39;re reacting with fear in a crisis when you say it or when you go buy one due to things like this, but just owning one is worse than worthless. guns become hobby bc in order for them to be safe for community defense, you really need to put hobby amounts of time into it
defending your home is way different from being in a crowd full of ppl not aware you firing has a high chance of getting them killed by the right wing being able to say they feared for their life
if THIS made you want to buy a gun, you probably shouldn& #39;t be buying a gun without at least a week of figuring out why it wouldn& #39;t help in this situation unless most of the crowd was both armed and trained

if you are not confident you can drop half again their numbers before they can fire, without hitting ppl not shouldering weapons, you& #39;re not going to do good by engaging, when the other side is itching for reasons to blindly fire into crowds without consequence

there are way more effective options for defense, btwn barriers, training ppl in tactics, running logistics, etc that require less risk and time investment
if you do carry, it better be as part of a contingent that is carrying, because that& #39;s the only way you& #39;ll be able to be in a position to actively defend, and not just be deterrent
